Technician Workforce Development Event Builds Momentum at Rio Hondo College

GLANCDA continued its commitment to technician workforce development with another successful event held at Rio Hondo College in Whittier. The program recognized five outstanding student technicians, each receiving a $500 Snap-on Tools gift card for their excellence and dedication to the automotive trade.

The event featured an engaging panel discussion that brought together industry leaders and dealership professionals, including Ian Thomas of Thomas Acura in Covina, his longtime Service Director and 30-year team member Mark Giles, and Leah Heron, Zone Manager for American Honda. The panel shared insights into dealership operations, career pathways, and the growing demand for skilled automotive technicians across Los Angeles County.

This gathering was part of a five-event series hosted by GLANCDA in partnership with local new car dealerships and community colleges throughout the region. Similar sessions are taking place this month at Long Beach City College, East Los Angeles College, and Cerritos College, providing valuable networking opportunities for students to meet potential employers and learn about the many rewarding career opportunities within the retail automotive industry.

Since its launch in 2018, the GLANCDA Technician Workforce Development initiative has expanded in both frequency and participation, reflecting the industry’s strong investment in the next generation of technicians.

Looking ahead, GLANCDA will host a special technician education event at the Los Angeles Auto Show on November 21, opening day to the public. This upcoming program will welcome both high school and college students, along with instructors, offering a unique behind-the-scenes experience and continued engagement with dealership leaders committed to building tomorrow’s automotive workforce.

Dealers: Limited openings remain for upcoming workforce development events.
